Historic apartment building
A 100-year-old wood framed building saved from collapse, then finished out as 12 modern apartments.

The project
R Builders assisted this client with the repairs required after code violations were issued on a historic building suffering from severe weather damage in West Palm Beach. The structure is a 100-year-old, three-storey wood framed building, and the work ran in two phases two years apart, for two different owners.
2020 — saving the structure
We worked with the structural engineer to safely save the historic structure. New framing, strapping, beams, floor sheeting, wall sheeting and building wrap were applied. R Builders handled all of the required inspections with the City of West Palm Beach and brought the building back into compliance with city codes and ordinances. The building was saved from collapse and the client was freed from the code violation notices.
2022 — finishing it out
Two years later R Builders was hired by the new owners to complete the project we had started. We provided all of the required electrical, mechanical, plumbing, interior framing, finishes and fixtures, converting the three-storey building back into a usable, modern 12-unit apartment building with a brand new catwalk and new exterior stucco, windows, doors and landscaping.
The result
A 100-year-old West Palm Beach building saved from collapse and returned to use as 12 modern apartments, with a fresh new look.
